13th December 2009 Gathering! Here’s one for the ‘rare moments’ book! ^not sure what I mean by the heading? Read on and you’ll find out! Sunday 13th December saw the return of one of Easy Talk’s most popular events - the gatherings! By now if you are not sure what this involves, where have you been in the last couple of years?!?!? This month our guest speaker was none other than Ustadh Abdullah Al Hasan whose topic was ‘Deceptions of Shaytan.’ Are we living in this world with our eyes clouded by all the deceptions? Do we even know how the shaytan can lead us to be deceived? And more importantly do we know how to fight the shaytan? Are we equipped with all the necessary tools?? Br Abdullah Al Hasan mentioned 12 ways in which the shaytan can deceive us: 1. Making evil look good But fear not brothers and sisters for it may seem overwhelming, but this beautiful deen is always filled with help, mercy and blessings to help us strive to get closer to Allah (swt). 1. Knowledge of the Quran It was definitely a daroon and inspiring talk and when you are feeling low or down just think, is it the Shaytan trying his utmost to take you away from the closeness of Allah? We had home made brownies (yum!), caramel tarts (an all time ET favourite!) and much much more AND not forgetting we had the chef’s special of baked potatoes and veg from none other than our in-house – ‘Chef ala MAK!’ (Food critics gave it a big thumbs up!) With minds in fifth gear and stomachs fully loaded, on we went and started the QUIZ! It was a tense moment as the sisters have now won the DAROON QUIZ trophy for TWO years running! (Or is it 3? Let’s not embarrass the bros anymore!) I guess the past 2/3 years have taught the bros some things. Last season we saw brothers take on all sorts of tactics. We had help from the presenters to increasing the number of brothers attending to just plain cheating! (Don’t deny it brothers, you know it’s true!) This season kicked off with a determination of steel from the brothers, they did not want to see a rerun of last year. The bros kept their nerves and the quiz was neck and neck, though at moments we thought it may be touch and go, but no that was just the brothers’ spokesperson not reading the answers properly! (Yeh sure bros blame it on the messenger!) At the end of the quiz we were left with a tie and so the sudden death question came, though sisters kept cool and gave an answer, the bros were just one step ahead and answered correctly! So there you have it peeps, a rare moment for the books! The brothers have started off the season with a win! Leaving scores at 1-0 to the BROS. And what is to become of the sisters this year? Are we to leave the CHAMPIONS league and enter into the EUROPA this year? (now that rings a bell!) or will EXTRA TIME give us our moment of glory? (that sounds familiar too!) How will this season’s battle of the quiz end? Are we in for some more shocking surprises?
